Xue Ying focuses on the life experiences of female subjects, often revealing the subtle tension and balance between stability and crisis in a direct and insightful manner. By using everyday objects as mediators, she evokes the suppressed, restless spirits within the mundane repetitions, and the pervasive sense of loss beneath stability and inertia.
She also explores the basic materials of daily life—silicone, natural rubber, tires, and metal building materials—paying attention to their instability, extensibility, fragility, and resilience, exploring their possibilities and limitations through hands-on practice. She introduces this project with a street-style chant: "My soul is fading, we got it all wrong, the world managed to teach us how to sing our song," using the body as our address, home, and truth, exploring how people depend on each other and how the body separates.
